A Vote for EducationAbout Us

The Newton Chapter of Stand for Children was launched in January 2006. Today, the Chapter’s 125 members are organized into three community teams and are playing a pivotal role in Stand for Children’s success in Massachusetts.

What are we working on right now?
This summer, we've been working behind the scenes to prepare for the fall municipal elections by sending out a survey to all candidates in contested races (mayor, School Committee, and Board of Aldermen) asking about their views on education.

For general information on the upcoming elections and voter registration, visit the Newton Election Commission website.

Remember: The run-off election for mayor and Ward 8 School Committee is Tuesday, September 15. This election will narrow the candidate fields for each of these two offices to two candidates whose names will appear on the November ballot. ALL Newton residents can vote for the Ward 8 School Committee candidates.

This fall we will conduct a brief survey of our membership to learn more about what issues members care about and what kind of involvement they want to have in the Chapter. If you are interested in helping with this project, email Allison Balter at abalter@stand.org.

Other Recent Happenings
The Newton Chapter had a busy spring of advocacy work on Beacon Hill. Members of the Newton Chapter met with their state legislators, attended the State House Rally, sent hundreds of postcards, and gathered hundreds of petition signatures to demand that schools remain a top priority in this difficult budget year. Read more about the outcomes of this hard work.
